Hello everyone!
What started as a little musing, a soupcon, a pre-risen soufflé of an idea from Lea Harris (aka @bakersbunny) has quickly risen into a rather lovely idea of hosting a fundraising afternoon tea to raise 'dough' for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Last week a group of cake-fans and bloggers attended a launch for October's Great Pink Bake Off campaign at Breakthrough Scotland's Offices, where we found out more about how we could help raise awareness for this year's fundraising efforts.
The theme, as you may have gathered, centers around baking, and the idea is that everyone can get involved. After all, who doesn't like cake? Chef Mark Greenaway is helping support the campaign, and treated us to a cupcake decorating demo, encouraging us to try new recipe ideas if we decided to put on our own bake sale. I, personally, couldn't wait to try the sticky toffee pudding cupcakes with salted caramel and cream cheese icing. The recipe can be found online here.

Julia, from the charity told us a bit more about this year's fundraising campaign. Put in stark numbers, as many as 4,500 women in Scotland are diagnosed with Breast Cancer each year. Awareness, early diagnosis and ongoing research are key in the fight to eradicate this horrible disease that affects too many of our mums, daughters, sisters, wives.
Lea got in touch with me earlier this week saying 'I HAVE AN IDEA!'. She's a well-connected lady of bake, don't you know, so I wasn't surprised when she turned up for our chat with loads of support from various bakeries around town to help put on an Afternoon Tea event. After a quick meeting within a matter of hours we had our venue booked, and things were rolling.
Here we are a few days later and the event is Live! More details to follow in the next post.
Bye for now,
